Garden & Journal Information
You may use the App to create or maintain garden plans, garden journals, notes, observations, task information, plant information, and related content.
During the current Beta, this information is stored locally on your device unless otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy. The Company does not currently provide an account-based cloud synchronization or backup service for this information.
Removing the App, losing or replacing your device, clearing the App’s data, or experiencing a technical failure may result in the loss of locally stored information.
Photos, Voice Notes, and Other Content
You may choose to add photographs, voice notes, or other content to the App.
Except when you affirmatively use a feature that requires information to be transmitted to a third-party service, such content is generally stored locally on your device during the Beta.
The App does not automatically access your entire photo library or transmit all photographs stored on your device. You select the photographs you wish to use with the App, subject to the permissions and controls provided by your device.
Address and Location-Related Information
The App may permit you to enter a street address or other location information to identify a garden location, obtain geographic coordinates, or provide location-relevant functionality such as weather or environmental information.
The App does not currently request continuous or background GPS access.
When you enter an address, the address may be transmitted to a geocoding service to convert it into geographic coordinates. Those coordinates may then be used to request location-specific information, such as weather information.
After geocoding, the address and related garden-location information may be stored locally on your device.
Sun and Shade Information
You may enter or generate sun and shade information relating to a garden or planting area. This information is generally stored locally on your device during the Beta.
Pest-Identification Information
If you choose to use the App’s pest-identification feature, the photograph you select and an associated instructional prompt or request will be transmitted to a third-party artificial intelligence service for analysis.
The third-party service will process the submitted photograph and prompt to generate a response. Do not submit photographs containing faces, private documents, sensitive personal information, or other content that is not necessary to identify a plant, pest, disease, or garden condition.
AI-generated identifications may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for your circumstances. You should independently verify important information before acting on it.
Feedback, Support Requests, and Other Communications
If you contact us, report an issue, submit support materials, or otherwise communicate with us outside a structured survey, we may collect:
-
your name and contact information;
-
the content of your communication;
-
screenshots, photographs, recordings, or files you provide;
-
information about the issue you experienced;
-
technical and device information relevant to the issue; and
-
other information you voluntarily submit.

other technical or usage information.
We use this information to understand how the Beta performs, improve features, troubleshoot problems, and plan future development.
Crash & Diagnostic Information
The App may use Sentry or similar services to identify errors, crashes, performance problems, and technical failures.
Diagnostic information may include:
-
crash reports;
-
error messages;
-
stack traces;
-
app version;
-
device type;
-
operating-system information;
-
IP address, if collected by the applicable service or enabled through the Company’s configuration;
-
timestamps;
-
technical identifiers; and
-
information concerning the actions or conditions associated with an error.
We use diagnostic information to maintain, secure, test, and improve the App.
Video Library
The App includes a video library (“Watch It Grow!”) that plays instructional videos within the App using YouTube’s embedded player in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube is a service of Google LLC.
When you browse the video library, video thumbnail images are loaded from YouTube’s servers, which receive your IP address and basic device information; no cookies are set by loading a thumbnail. Opening a video connects to YouTube’s servers, which receive your IP address and device information. In privacy-enhanced mode, YouTube does not set cookies unless and until you play a video. When you play a video, YouTube may collect viewing and engagement information.
The video catalog is bundled with the App, no YouTube account or sign-in is required, and we do not send YouTube information about you or your garden, nor do we receive personal information about you from YouTube. YouTube’s collection and use of information is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service, not by this Privacy Policy. The video provider is also described in Section 3.
2. How We Use Information
We may use information collected or processed in connection with the Beta to:
-
recruit, screen, select, and enroll Beta testers;
-
maintain geographic, experience, platform, device, and cohort representation within the tester panel;
-
provide and administer access through Apple TestFlight, Google Play closed testing, or another authorized distribution mechanism;
-
verify acceptance of applicable terms, notices, and participation requirements;
-
communicate with testers about onboarding, access, testing instructions, surveys, support, updates, and changes to the Beta;
-
provide and operate the application;
-
provide requested garden-planning, weather, imagery, video, geocoding, and pest-identification functionality;
-
evaluate the Beta and tester experience;
-
analyze survey responses and feedback;
-
diagnose crashes, errors, and performance problems;
-
improve existing features and develop new features;
-
maintain the security and integrity of the Beta;
-
investigate misuse or violations of applicable terms;
-
maintain appropriate business, consent, and legal records;
-
comply with legal obligations;
-
establish, exercise, or defend legal rights; and
-
carry out another purpose disclosed when information is collected or with your consent.
We do not sell personal information or share information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under applicable privacy law.
3. Third-Party Services
The Beta relies on third-party service providers that may collect or process information in connection with the services they provide. Their processing may also be governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
3.1 Census Geocoder
Address information may be transmitted to the United States Census Bureau’s geocoding service to convert an entered address into geographic coordinates.
3.2 Open-Meteo
Geographic coordinates or location-related information may be transmitted to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather information relevant to a garden location.
3.3 Government Aerial Imagery
The App may retrieve government-provided aerial imagery associated with a selected area. Requests for imagery may disclose geographic coordinates, map bounds, IP address, device information, or other technical request data to the relevant hosting or imagery service.
3.4 Cloudflare
When the App retrieves aerial imagery for the Sun and Shade feature, the request is routed through Cloudflare, an infrastructure provider the Company contracts with. Cloudflare caches commonly requested map tiles so that imagery loads more quickly, and in doing so receives the requesting device’s IP address and the coordinates of the map tile being loaded — and no name, email, account, or other information about you. Cached tiles are served by Cloudflare directly; when a tile is not cached, Cloudflare forwards the request to the United States Government’s public aerial-imagery service from Cloudflare’s own IP address rather than yours.
3.5 Google Artificial Intelligence Services
A photograph selected for pest identification, together with an associated prompt or request, may be transmitted to a Google artificial intelligence service for processing.
Google’s processing of information is subject to the terms and privacy practices applicable to the specific service used by Company.
3.6 YouTube
The App’s video library plays instructional videos through an embedded YouTube player, a service of Google LLC, operated in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). When a tester browses or plays a video, YouTube may receive the tester’s IP address and device information, and may collect viewing and engagement information when a video is played. In privacy-enhanced mode, YouTube does not set cookies unless and until a video is played. Company does not transmit tester or garden information to YouTube and does not receive personal information about testers from YouTube.
YouTube’s collection and use of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and the YouTube Terms of Service.
3.7 Firebase & Firebase Analytics
The App may use Firebase technologies to support application functionality, analytics, configuration, testing, or related services.
Firebase Analytics may collect information concerning devices, installations, app events, interactions, and usage.
Firebase is Google’s application-development platform, and it runs on Google Cloud infrastructure; Firebase and Google Cloud are the same provider. The Company uses Firebase Cloud Functions to receive email addresses and feedback submitted through the App, and stores that information in a Firebase (Firestore) database located in the United States (region us-central1).
The information stored on this backend is limited to an email address, if you provide one, paired with a random, anonymous identifier generated on your device, and any feedback you submit, paired with that same identifier and the version of the App you are using. The Company does not store your garden plans, journal entries, photographs, or address on this backend — that content remains on your device, as described in Section 5.
3.8 Sentry
The App may use Sentry to collect crash, error, diagnostic, and performance information.
3.9 Expo
The App is built using the Expo platform. When the App launches, the device checks Expo’s servers for an available software update; and when the App first displays media that was added after the App was installed (such as a new plant or crop animation), the device downloads that content from Expo’s content-delivery network. These requests disclose the device’s IP address, the App’s version identifier, and the specific content requested; they do not include account information or garden data.
3.10 App Stores & Device Platforms
Apple, Google, device manufacturers, operating-system providers, and app-distribution platforms may independently collect and process information relating to your device, downloads, installation, use of the App, and participation in beta programs.
Their collection and processing of information are governed by their respective terms and privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy.
3.11 Google Forms and Google Sheets
We use Google Forms and Google Sheets, services provided by Google LLC, to collect and maintain Beta applications, screening information, onboarding information, participation records, and related administrative data.
The information processed through these services may include the information described in Sections 1.1 through 1.4.
3.12 Mailchimp
We use Mailchimp, a service provided by Intuit Inc. or its affiliates, to manage tester contact records, segment testers, distribute Beta communications, monitor email delivery and engagement, and administer surveys.
Information processed through Mailchimp may include:
-
name;
-
email address;
-
platform and cohort tags;
-
participation status;
-
email-delivery and engagement information; and
-
survey responses, if surveys are administered through Mailchimp.
Mailchimp communications may contain an unsubscribe mechanism. Unsubscribing from operational Beta communications may affect your ability to continue participating.
3.13 Apple App Store Connect and TestFlight
We use Apple App Store Connect and TestFlight to distribute the iOS Beta, invite and manage testers, deliver Beta builds, and receive certain testing and diagnostic information.
Depending on the invitation method, Apple may process a tester’s name, invitation email, Apple Account information, installation information, sessions, crashes, and feedback.
Apple independently processes information under its own terms and privacy practices.
3.14 Google Play Console and Google Groups
We use Google Play Console and, where applicable, a Google Group to enroll and manage Android testers and distribute the Android Beta.
Google may process the Google-account email address used for closed-testing access, participation and enrollment information, device and installation information, and other information generated through use of Google Play.
The Google-account email address is used by the Company to provide and administer Android Beta access.
4. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information in the following circumstances.

protect the rights, property, or safety of Company, our users, or others;
-
detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or unlawful activity; or
-
enforce agreements or protect legal rights.
4.3 Business Transactions
Information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with an actual or proposed financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, bankruptcy, or other business transaction involving all or part of Company or the App.
4.4 With Your Direction or Consent
We may disclose information at your direction or with your consent.
5. Where Information is Stored
5.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
During the current Beta, garden plans, journal entries, photographs, voice notes, address information, and similar application content are generally stored locally on your device.

6. Data Retention
6.1 Locally Stored Application Content
Content stored locally on your device remains there until you delete it, clear the application’s data, remove the application, reset or replace your device, or the information is otherwise lost.
Company generally does not possess and cannot remotely delete content stored only on your device.
6.2 Beta Applications & Screening Records
We intend to retain Beta application, screening, onboarding, and administrative records through the end of the closed Beta and for a limited administrative wind-down period thereafter.
Unless retention is reasonably necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or recordkeeping purposes, we intend to delete or deidentify these records within 60 days after the scheduled conclusion of the Beta.
6.3 Tester Contact Records
Mailchimp contact records will generally be retained through the Beta and deleted within 60 days after the Beta closes, unless:
-
the tester affirmatively opts in to receive communications after the Beta;
-
retention is necessary to document an unsubscribe or suppression request;
-
retention is required by law; or
-
retention is reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal rights.
An unsubscribe request will be honored in accordance with applicable law and the functionality of the applicable communication service.
6.4 Platform-Provisioning Records
Testers will be removed from Company-controlled TestFlight groups, Google Play testing lists, and Google Groups after the Beta closes or earlier upon withdrawal or termination, subject to the applicable platform’s independent retention practices.
6.5 Survey Responses & Feedback
We may retain survey responses and feedback for product analysis and development after the Beta closes.
Where reasonably practicable, we will remove direct identifiers or retain survey findings in aggregated or deidentified form. Free-text responses may be retained in their original form if necessary to preserve their substantive value, but we will remove direct identifiers where reasonably practicable.
6.6 Consent & Legal Records
We may retain records evidencing acceptance of applicable terms, privacy disclosures, releases, or other legal agreements for as long as reasonably necessary to document the tester’s agreement and participation, comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements.
6.7 Testimonials
We may retain a testimonial and the related release for as long as we use the testimonial and for a reasonable period thereafter to document the authorization.
6.8 Service-Provider Retention
Third-party providers may retain information under their own terms, system configurations, legal requirements, backup practices, and retention schedules. Company may not be able to control or immediately delete information retained independently by a platform or service provider.
7. Your Choices & Controls
7.1 Device Permissions
You may manage App permissions through your device settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the applicable feature from functioning.
7.2 Locally Stored Information
You may be able to delete individual entries or content through the App. You may also delete locally stored App information by clearing the App’s data or uninstalling the App, subject to your device’s functionality.
Uninstalling the App does not necessarily delete information previously transmitted to third parties or information separately submitted to Company.
7.3 Analytics Controls
Your device or operating system may provide controls relating to analytics, advertising identifiers, app tracking, or diagnostic information. The availability and effect of those controls depend on your platform and the technologies used by the App.
The App also provides an in-app control. In the App’s Settings, the “Diagnostics & Analytics” setting lets you turn off anonymous crash reporting and usage analytics at any time. This setting is on by default; turning it off disables both the App’s usage analytics and its crash- and diagnostic-reporting.
7.4 Privacy and Beta Records Requests
You may contact us at privacy@sfgplanner.garden to:
-
request access to personal information maintained directly by Company;
-
request correction or deletion of Beta application, contact, survey, or provisioning information;
-
withdraw from the Beta;
-
request removal from Company-controlled testing groups or distribution lists; or
-
ask questions about our information practices.
You can find your Anonymous ID in the App under Settings, where it is labeled “Anonymous ID” and can be shared using the “Share my ID” option. Including this identifier in your request to privacy@sfgplanner.garden helps us locate and remove the records associated with your installation.
Following a reasonably verified deletion or withdrawal request, Company will take reasonable steps to delete applicable information from Company-controlled systems and remove the tester from Company-controlled access lists, subject to:
-
information stored solely on the tester’s device;
-
information independently controlled or retained by a third-party platform;
-
records required to document consent, deletion, suppression, or compliance;
-
information reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal claims; and
-
other retention permitted or required by law.
We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and protect against fraudulent or unauthorized requests. Because much of the application content is stored only on your device, Company may not possess or be able to access or delete that content.
8. State Privacy Rights
Certain state privacy laws may provide residents of those states with rights concerning their personal information. These rights apply only to the extent the Company and the applicable processing activity are subject to the relevant law and may be limited by statutory exceptions. Depending on your state of residence and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have rights concerning personal information maintained by Company, such as rights to:
-
confirm whether we process personal information about you;
-
access certain personal information;
-
correct inaccuracies;
-
request deletion;
-
obtain a portable copy of certain information; or
-
appeal a denial of a privacy request.
Company does not currently sell personal information for monetary consideration or use personal information processed through the App for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To submit a request, contact us at privacy@sfgplanner.garden. Please identify the state in which you reside and describe the request.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information maintained by Company.
No method of electronic transmission, local device storage, or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, lost, altered, or disclosed without authorization.
You are responsible for securing your device, maintaining appropriate access controls, installing software updates, and backing up information you wish to preserve.
10. Children’s Privacy
Participation in the Beta is limited to persons who are at least 18 years old. Eligibility is confirmed through the Beta screening and onboarding process.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and Company does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to Company, contact us at privacy@sfgplanner.garden.
11. International Users
Company is based in the United States. Information disclosed directly to Company or processed by Company’s providers may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. The Beta is available only to invited testers in the United States.
12. Third-Party Links & Content
The App may display or provide access to third-party websites, content, imagery, services, or resources.
Company does not control the privacy, security, accuracy, or availability of third-party services. Your interaction with a third party is governed by that third party’s terms and policies.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including as the App’s features, service providers, or data practices change. We will post the updated Privacy Policy and revise the Effective Date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
The updated Privacy Policy will apply to information processed on or after its effective date. Where required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before applying a material change to information previously collected.
