Kevin - Thanks for your comments. I'm a firm believer in SFG and always try to spread the word whenever I can. I'll be sure to keep you and Mel updated with more pictures as the season progresses. Right now I'm putting about 15 SFG raised beds on what once was an outdoor basketball court. Even on concrete, 6 inches of Mel's mix let's me grow anything. Best Regards...Rick

Great post, I enjoyed reading it - really comprehensive! We’d love to see any more pictures you have of your SFG as it progresses through the season – I know Mel would for sure. Send them to askmelsfg@gmail.com if you’re interested.

Thanks for spreading the SFG message, we really appreciate it :)

Jan - Thanks for the question and thanks for reading The How Do Gardener. Towards the end of this article, I mention how you can make a support structure over each raised bed by arching two pieces of 10' x 1/2" PVC pipe over each bed. Just stick one end of the PVC pipe in the soil inside a raised bed, arch it diagonally over the bed and stick the other end into the soil inside the opposite corner of the raised bed. Now repeat this process on the remaining two corners. Tie the two pieces together at the top where they cross, and you now have a sturdy support structure that you can drape deer netting over the top of. Just be sure to anchor the deer net to the ground. Hope this helps.
